Ten years after Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans’ Lower 9th Ward still lacks a grocery store.
That’s why our families love community gardens – and access to free, nutritious food for their families.
On the tenth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, we are dedicating an entire plot of land for a new garden that can support many families.
But we need your help! The garden needs a fence, planters, seeds and a small endowment for maintenance. We need to raise $5,000 this week to make this our best garden yet.

I don’t really understand the issue of no grocery store but even more, the money being requested for ‘building and maintenance’. It looks like they are using plastic(?) for the gardens, but teaching people how to grow their own food or contribute to the maintenance would be more sustainable. Has the ‘white knight’ considered aquaponics, or maybe classes in self sufficiency?
