In Depth
How: Visually inspect all surfaces from the ground if possible. Look for punctured areas, severe dents, accumulated debris, exposed joints and obstructed vent pipes. Make sure all penetrations in the roof are correctly sealed or caulked. Check that sealed joints around the roof hatch are not cracked and are in good condition. Consult with a qualified roofing contractor as necessary for correction of any roofing problems. Pressure wash the roof's surface.
After any snow, ice, high winds or heavy rains, check for water stains under overhang and in attic. Always call your homeowners' insurance company first for any storm-related damage.
Replacement cycle: Properly maintained metal roofs need to be replaced every 15-20 years on average. Properly maintained TPO roofs need to be replaced every 10-15 years on average.
Warranty information: Homeowners must register their metal roofs within 150 days of installation on the Custom-Bilt Metals website. Warranty information for TPO roofs is available on the Firestone Building Products website.
Caution: Do not walk on your roof, as it is dangerous and could cause damage
